Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

Consists of material primarily collected by Patrick Rogers including items regarding the political history of Ireland and Northern Ireland, documenting his academic and professional career, and concerning religious history in Ireland. The collection contains circulars, correspondence, ephemera, lectures, newsletters, newspaper clippings, and photographs. Notable topics include capital punishment and hunger strikes, the history of St. Malachy's College, Irish Republican Army (IRA) activities, Northern Ireland public education, parish histories, and police brutality. Materials related to two of Rogers's published works, Father Theobald Mathew: An Apostle of Temperance (1945) and The Irish Volunteers and Catholic Emancipation 1778-1793 (1934) are also included.

It appears that Patrick Rogers's successor as principal of St. Joseph's College of Education, Michael Dallat, continued collecting resources after Rogers died in 1969. Envelopes included with records dated between 1969 and 1972 were addressed to Dallat.
