Tenure denials, 1971 - 1997
Scope and Contents
Materials primarily document Doherty’s ongoing support for Kristin Morrison and Mary Daly, both Boston College professors who, upon being denied tenure, accused the University of gender-based discrimination. Materials include personal reflections, letters from members of the faculty, administration, and student body, tenure committee meeting minutes, votes cast, press releases, and newspaper clippings.
Also included are Doherty’s personal reflections on the circumstances around Anne Fleche’s tenure case and a newspaper article on Howard Eiland’s case, both English professors whose tenure was approved by the English Department and later were denied tenure by the University.
