Historical note
The Varsity Club Trophy for football is named the Scanlan Award after Thomas F. Scanlan, Boston College class of 1920 and president of the Varsity Club 1942-1946. The awardee is "that senior football player who, in our estimation, best exemplifies the ideals of beloved Tom Scanlan, scholar, athlete, gentleman, and friend."
The award dinner was originally called the Varsity Club Dinner, and later the Scanlan Awards Banquet.
