Definition and use
A crucifix is a Christian devotional image composed of a cross with a hanging figure of Jesus affixed. The crucifix is a representation of the crucifixion of Jesus by the Romans, and is often included in church rituals or daily personal devotion. A crucifix is usually inscribed with “INRI,” an abbreviation of "lesus Nazarenus, Rex ludaeorum," which means "Jesus the Nazarene, King of the Jews."
