Definition and use
A thurible is a metal censer used to burn incense during ceremonies such as solemn Mass, Vespers, and Benediction. A thurible is usually shaped like a covered cup or bowl resting on a solid base, with four chains approximately three feet long used to swing it, circulating the incense smoke. Additional incense to refill the thurible is carried in a small container called an incense boat.
