Definition and use

A ciborium veil is a cloth that covers the ciborium (the container that stores the Host before Communion). In the Latin rite, ciborium veils are white or sometimes gold, such as on Holy Thursday. Generally, a ciborium veil is a circular piece of white satin, perforated at the top with a small, central opening so that the veil will entirely cover the ciborium.
