Definition and use
A square white linen cloth, the corporal is placed beneath the chalice and the Host on the altar during Mass to prevent any consecrated elements from being lost. Because they come into contact with consecrated elements, corporals must be washed three times by a priest, deacon, or subdeacon, before they may be sent to a regular laundry.
