Definition and use
An alb is a white linen vestment with close-fitting sleeves, reaching almost to the ground and belted at the waist by a cincture (belt). The alb is a common vestment, worn by all priests and other ministers at Mass. It is worn over a cassock and under any special vestments such as a stole or chasuble.
