Definition and use
A fascia is a sash worn by Catholic clergy, traditionally tied above the waist. The color of the fascia varies depending on the rank of the wearer: the Pope wears white, cardinals wear red, bishops wear purple, and priests wear black. Fringed sashes are most typical post-Vatican II, as tufted sashes were abolished for most clergy members.
