Scrapbooks, 1891-1958, undated
Dates
- Creation: 1891-1958, undated
Scope and Contents
Goldstein’s scrapbooks contain various formats, including newspaper, magazine, and journal clippings; correspondence; fliers, posters, press releases, programs, pamphlets, and leaflets; membership cards and certificates; photographs; receipts; and ticket stubs. They mainly document the lecture tours led under the auspices of the Catholic Truth Guild, Catholic Campaigners for Christ, and the Knights of Columbus. There is also information about organizations with which Goldstein and Avery were involved, including the Common Cause Society and the Karl Marx Class (later the Boston School of Political Economy). Some scrapbooks were used to collect information about Goldstein’s and Avery’s writings, debates and forums they participated in, and subjects about which they were passionate. Topics include early 20th-century American politics; birth control; marriage; family values; Catholicism and Judaism; Anti-Socialism; and biographical details about Goldstein’s life and work. Scrapbook titles assigned by Goldstein are represented in quotation marks.
