Scope and Contents

From the Series:

The scrapbook series includes fifteen scrapbooks created by students and staff of NEHD SON and its affiliated hospitals. These scrapbooks contain a large number of photographs and clippings, as well as pamphlets, mailings, promotional materials, letters, class schedules, invitations, greeting cards, and souvenir objects. Only two of the scrapbooks have identified creators: the Claire G. Elliott NEDH scrapbook and the Warren F. Cook NEDH and Palmer Memorial Hospital scrapbook. Claire G. Elliott, who graduated from NEDH SON in 1922, began compiling her scrapbook as a probationer in 1918 and completed it in 1940. Dr. Warren F. Cook, a Methodist minister with a doctorate in Divinity, served as superintendent of NEDH from 1929 to 1954. One scrapbook, “Science and Christianity at Work in the New Palmer Memorial Hospital,” appears to have been a lending publication intended for use in fundraising lectures. The majority of the later scrapbooks, especially those dating from the 1950s and 1960s, are collections of newspaper clippings regarding NEDH and its students. Many of the scrapbooks are fragile and should be handled with care.
