Scope and Contents
Business and publicity records consist of advertising ephemera, correspondence, ledgers, minutes, a patent, and a presentation on the history of advertising. General correspondence is minimal and pertains mainly to the death of Charles T. Donnelly in 1926 and Edward C. Donnelly Sr. in 1927. Also included is a set of meeting minutes from 1938, one ledger recording interest received from 1915-1925, a blank book of stock certificates, and company newsletters. The majority of the photographs and press releases for the Advertising Club of Boston date to Edward C. Donnelly Jr.'s tenure as president, 1953-1954. A presentation on the history of advertising contains original advertisements dating back to 1884. Also included is John Donnelly & Son's centennial book with correspondence and memos relating to its shipping and reception. Series also contains sketches and layouts for various pamphlets, a phonograph record, "Sing it Outdoors," as well as a variety of advertising ephemera such as postcards, fliers, posters, a metal Donnelly Advertising sign, and a promotional desk toy.
