Scrapbook, 1908 February-1914 June
Scope and Contents
Scrapbooks consist mainly of newspaper clippings concerning John Donnelly & Sons and outdoor advertising. Enclosures include pamphlets, issues of papers and newsletters, souvenir programs, and photographs. A series of scrapbooks documenting John Donnelly & Sons public service advertising comprises photographs of the public service billboards along with letters of thanks from the various causes represented. Ongoing attempts at billboard legislation, especially the Massachusetts Supreme Court case upholding the Outdoor Advertising Control Act in 1936, and the Highway Beautification Act of 1965, are recorded in several legislation scrapbooks. Scrapbooks recording the meetings and honorary luncheons of local advertising clubs include programs, menus, correspondence, seating plans, photographs, and speech notes. Personal scrapbooks from 1936-1939 and 1938-1943 contain correspondence and newsclippings pertaining to Mary Curley Donnelly and Edward C. Donnelly Jr. Several scrapbooks contain handwritten annotations, poetry, and newsclippings of personal interest to the compiler.
