Scope and Contents

This series contains research material pertaining to the Roman Catholic Church in Ireland. The subseries also contain some correspondence between third parties that Larkin filed with the archbishops' records. General (subseries F) contains other civil and ecclesiastical research materials used by Larkin. These documents are copies. The originals are in the following archives: the foreign office of the United Kingdom; the Irish College in Rome; the... National Library of Ireland; and the Roman Catholic archdiocese and dioceses of Armagh, Cashel, Dublin, and Tuam.

Biographical note

Paul Cullen (1803-1878) was the Roman Catholic archbishop of Dublin from 1850-1866, and was created a cardinal in 1866.

Edward McCabe (1816-1885) was the Roman Catholic archbishop of Dublin from 1879-1882, and was created a cardinal in 1882.

William J. Walsh (1841-1921) was the Roman Catholic archbishop of Dublin from 1885 to 1921.

John Thomas Troy (1739-1823) was the Roman Catholic archbishop of Dublin from 1786-1823.

John Hamilton (1800-1862) was an archdeacon under Daniel Murray, and managed Murray’s diocese during the latter’s frequent illnesses.
