Press Conference Transcripts and Briefings

Scope and Contents
Transcripts of the Speaker's daily press conferences were compiled by his staff beginning in 1980. These provide verbatim accounts of reporters' questions and O'Neill's answers. The transcripts give evidence of his cordial, sometimes jocular, relationship with the press corps. In addition to the transcripts, a memo summarizing the details of the press conference was prepared each day for the Press Assistant.
