Scope and Contents

From the Sub-subseries:

U.S. military involvement in Vietnam generated a great amount of constituent interest which is documented through correspondence, telegrams, surveys, background material, and bills. In his newsletter of September 1967, O'Neill stated that "As a citizen, Congressman, and father, I cannot help but wonder whether this [the Vietnam War] may not be too high a price to pay for an obscure and limited objective." The responses to this announcement, a reversal... of his previous pro-war stance, provide an overview of the resulting dialog between O'Neill and his constituents.
