Scope and Contents
O'Neill as Speaker had the prerogative of appointing House members to select special, ad hoc, and conference committees. His authority extended to the selection of private citizens to serve as trustees and advisory board members to such institutions as the military academies, Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Bicentennial Commission, and Regents of the Smithsonian. Recorded here are requests, recommendations, nominations, and official lists of nominees.
