These are notes and letters of thanks and congratulations, often generated by protocol. However, it is possible to distinguish a personal touch within them. Some of the identified correspondents include Presidents Kennedy, Johnson, Ford, and Carter, Senators Edward Kennedy and Hubert Humphrey, and Speakers McCormack and Albert, along with foreign dignitaries and heads of state. Celebrity correspondents range from baseball great Carl Yastrzemski to entertainers such as Bob Hope and Dinah Shore.
