Compilation of 16th-century Jesuit documents
Scope and Contents
Bound volume of 16th and 17th-century Jesuit writings copied in manuscript by an anonymous compiler in the late 17th or early 18th century. Includes excerpts from early histories of the Jesuits, and correspondence, dating from 1534 to 1577. The volume concludes with Francis Xavier's sonnet "No me mueve, mi Dios, para quererte" followed by two translations by Sforza Pallavicino and by Rutilio Xirotta. The Pallavicino translation appears in the 1644 edition of Giovanni Rho's Degli Atti ed' Affetti delle Virtù Centuria Prima dell'Amore. A note at the end of the volume asserts that Xirotta's is better. First four leaves and final four leaves are blank.
