Daily diary of Nicholas M. Williams's thirty-day retreat at Loyola College, undertaken as part of his Jesuit formation in Febrary-March 1860. Williams records daily rituals, meditations, and readings, and notes inspirational quotations and "good resolutions."

Biographical Note

Irish-American bookseller. Nicholas M. Williams (1839-1917) was born in Dublin, Ireland. He immigrated with his family to Massachusetts in 1843. In 1859 he joined the Maryland Province of the Society of Jesus and began studies at Loyola College. Williams returned to Boston without completing his Jesuit formation and established a Catholic bookshop near the Cathedral of the Holy Cross.
