Biographical note

Civil servant and Irish nationalist. Casement served in the British Foreign Service from 1892 to 1913. He joined the Irish Volunteers and tried to secure arms for them. When the Easter Rising broke out he was charged with treason and sentenced to death.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

Because the current accessioning system was not used until January 1986, it is not possible to know exactly the dates of acquisition of materials received before that time. However, these items are thought to have been acquired in part through a gift from Hugh Francis Blunt and a purchase from Rendells, Inc.
