Scope and Contents

Consists of diaries, scrapbooks, correspondence, reports, and publications. The diaries and scrapbooks document the School's history during the tenures of deans Walter McGuinn, SJ and Dorothy L. Book. The collection also contains files on special projects and programs, such as work with the Peace Corps and the School's anniversary celebrations.

Historical Note

The Boston College Graduate School of Social Work was founded in 1936. In 1938, the School was accepted for membership in the American Association of Schools of Social Work and fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. In 1968, the school moved from Boston to the Chestnut Hill campus. Since 1979 the School of Social Work has awarded the Doctor of Social Work degree.
