Scope and Contents
Record of the military enrollment status of the adult male population of Newton, Massachusetts, compiled and signed by the town assessors, Isaac Hagar, Eben Woodward, and Otis Pettee, and dated 27 June 1863. Of 1,272 men listed, 315 are identified as serving, including many with the 44th Regiment Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry or other state volunteer regiments. The occupations of men exempt from military service requirments are also given.
