Historical Note
The Boston College Center for Work & Family was founded in 1990 to link academic research with corporate practice in support of employee well-being, productivity, and organizational effectiveness. Its Workforce Roundtable brought together employers from diverse industries to share research and strategies on progressive human resource practices.
Established by Bradley Googins with ten corporate founding members, the Center launched the Work and Family Roundtable in 1990 and the New England Work and Family Association in 1992. In 1997, it moved to the Carroll School of Management, where Director Marcie Pitt-Catsouphes later founded the Work-Family Researchers Network.
Brad Harrington became Executive Director in 2001, leading initiatives such as the Global Roundtable (2006), the Global Executive Briefing Series, and The New Dad project (2009–2017). The Center marked its 25th anniversary in 2015, and continued to publish studies on workplace trends, family dynamics, and employee experience. It also co-presented the Rosabeth Moss Kanter Award for Excellence in Work-Family Research with Purdue University.
The Center for Work and Family closed in December 2025.
