Boston College. Office of Student Involvement

 Organization

General Context

Established circa 1985 through the merger of the Dean of Students Office and the Student Programs and Resources (OSPAR), the Office of Student Development served as a central hub for student life outside the classroom. Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs, it oversaw leadership programs, community standards, and student organizations such as the Undergraduate Government of Boston College, Graduate Student Association, and Senior Week Committee.

As the University’s approach to student life expanded, the office evolved into the Office of Student Involvement, reflecting a broader commitment to engagement, leadership formation, and holistic student development. Today, the office supports the academic mission of Boston College by intentionally linking learning experiences inside and outside the classroom. Its work centers on four key areas: student organizations, governance, leadership education, and campus-wide programming.
