Biographical Note

Richard O'Brien was a Boston College a classics professor and faculty director of the Athletic Association. During World War One, he became a chaplain in the United States Marine Corps. After leaving Boston College in 1925, O'Brien served Ateneo de Manila University in the capacity as both a professor (1925-1927) and president (1927-1933). He died in 1933 in the Philippines.

Scope and Contents

The photograph album contains photographs of Rev. Richard A. O'Brien, family members, priests, Boston College students, and Boston College athletics. The sports materials (all circa 1916-1923) consist mainly of photographs of the football and track teams but also include important hockey and baseball images. The collection also contains a publication entitled Humoresque which was produced by members of the class of 1925 and presented to O'Brien.
