Biographical Note
Gerard Manley Hopkins, SJ, eldest child of Manley and Kate Hopkins, attended Oxford and converted to Catholicism in 1868. He joined the Jesuits and was ordained in 1877. It was only after his death in 1889 his work was published; his friend, the poet Robert Bridges, published his Poems in 1918.

A number of items concern Manley Hopkins's involvement with religious and political affairs in Hawaii. The collection also includes a few pieces of correspondence by British Catholic author Gerard Manley Hopkins, SJ.
