Heckler's longest committee assignments were on the Committee on Agriculture, the Joint Economic Committee, and the Committee on Veterans' Affairs; these are well represented and are listed alphabetically by their more common names of Agriculture Committee and Veterans' Affairs Committee. Committee files relate to specific legislation under consideration by the committee as well as background materials, reports, and briefings on topics that fell under the committee's purview and on legislation of particular interest to Heckler. Examples would be the extensive files on alcohol fuels and nutrition education in the Agriculture Committee materials, and on veterans' health and education benefits in the Veterans' Affairs Committee files. Materials in the committee files often include briefings, copies of testimonies and statements at hearings, issue mail, reference material, Dear Colleague letters, committee reports, and occasional press releases. Files on other legislation not related to Heckler's committee work include similar materials.
