Fitzpatrick, Aiden - photograph, 2020 March 19
Dates
- Creation: 2020 March 19
Scope and Contents
A photograph Fitzpatrick took of himself after being admitted to University Health Services with COVID-19 on March 19th 2020. He was the second student to test positive on campus, although he didn't contract the virus until campus had already closed.
On March 11th, Boston College announced that campus would be closing by the end of the week. As an international student, Fitzpatrick applied for a housing extension to stay on-campus. At this point in time, COVID-19 was further along in his home country in Ireland. A couple of days after everyone left campus, one of Fitzpatrick's roommates tested positive for COVID-19. They had spent plenty of time together during the last five days, so he admitted himself to UHS. A day or two later, he was moved to an isolation room in 2150 (Thomas More Apartments), to wait for test results to come back. BC Dining brought a bag of food every day, including a hot meal. Nine days after admitting himself to UHS, Fitzgerald received his results, and had tested positive. He was contacted by the Department of Health and provided them with a list of anyone who he had recently seen. One of his friends checked himself into an isolation room in UHS as a result. After the quarantine period came to an end, Fitzgerald moved all his belongings from his 4-person apartment in Rubenstein Hall to a single room in Fenwick Hall. He lived there for a month or two before moving to Foster Street for the summer.
