Historical note: COVID-19 Pandemic at Boston College

The first official Boston College communication about the coronavirus was on January 30, 2020, when cases were beginning to be reported in the United States. Over the course of February and early March, the University began enacting travel restrictions and self-quarantine mandates following travel to particular places, especially after Spring Break. As the pandemic worsened, the University suspended all in-person classes on March 11, 2020, moving all instruction online. Students were required to vacate their University-provided housing by March 15 unless they applied for a waiver due to extenuating circumstances (for example, international students who weren't able to travel home). Boston College returned to in-person classes beginning on August 31, 2020, with gradually lessening restrictions to scheduling, masking, testing, and vaccine requirements.
