Roussel, Amanda - announcement for WZBC radio, 2020 March
Dates
- Creation: 2020 March
Scope and Contents
Digital announcement by Roussel to quickly disseminate information to the community of WZBC DJs following the announcement that Boston College was closing campus in March of 2020 due to Covid-19. WZBC is Boston College’s student-run radio station, meaning a sudden dearth of student DJs on campus would impair its functioning. This post mentions community members, adults DJs who have been permitted to work at the station by our faculty advisor, who are often retirees. While the students hoped these folks could be the answer to programming in March, they were no longer permitted in the station due to Boston College’s Covid-19 regulations. Instead, the station employed a new community member, a robot. The Bot is used to coordinate prerecorded shows so students and community members participating remotely can still be a part of the station. This announcement illustrates the steps taken at the very onset of the pandemic, which seem small compared to what solutions had been implemented by December.
On a personal level, Roussel sees this post as part of her early graphic design work for the radio station, which she did as part of her job as Publicity Director. During the pandemic, she had the opportunity to practice her skills by doing freelance work for friends and strangers, and seeking out new skills from educational videos online.
