Historical note

The Agrégé en Philosophie is an award for graduates of the University of Louvain, Belgium. Graduates who show particular promise in their fields of study and publish a monograph are invited to try for the honor by defending fifty theses on all branches of philosophy before a board of examiners. Those who are invited and pass the defense are granted the title of Maître Agrégé à l'Institut. Richardson passed his defense and was awarded the Agrégé in 1962.
