Historical note

This Jesuit Educational Association grew out of a grouping of newly-formed associations of the Missouri Province of the Society of Jesus. Their annual meetings were first brought together under the header of the Jesuit Educational Association in 1922, when the annual convention include the Province's Classical, English, Historical, and Science Associations, which were subsequently joined by the regional Sociological Conference and Library Association. At the third joint convention in 1924, a formal parent structure for the six groups was proposed, along with the formal adoption of the Association name, with the use of a regional subtitle in case other Provinces wished to create similar associations. "Mid-West Division" was used through 1927, when it was changed to "Central States Division". For further details, see "The Jesuit Educational Association - What's in a Name?" by A.F. Frumveller, SJ, in the proceedings of the third annual convention.
