Personal papers of Alice Gallin, including awards, correspondence, research and writings, and materials relating to organizational service. The majority relates to Gallin's research and consulting about American Catholic higher education, particularly through the lens of Ex Corde Ecclesiae, the apostolic constitution issued by Pope John Paul II in 1990 to guide and refine Catholic higher education. The collection also includes personal and publishing correspondence, as well as materials relating to service at the Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities (ACCU), the College of New Rochelle, the International Federation of Catholic Universities (IFCU/FIUC), St. Bonaventure University, and other Catholic organizations.

Biographical / Historical

The Brookland Commission, comprised of eight women of different religious congregations, began in 1988 with a discussion of the roles of women religious in higher education. The discussions culminated in 1992 in a national conference held in Washington and a collection of papers, titled Women Religious and the Intellectual Life, published in 1995.
