Cooney, Tim and Marshall England, probably, 1969 or 1970
Scope and Contents
Contains two partial interviews. The first interview begins in progress, with a man speaking about starting out teaching school in Montgomery, Alabama and then coming to New York. He was working with delinquents to channel them into civil rights ventures. He is 36 years old and president of a group (name inaudible). Dicusses Wyatt Walker and the Church in Harlem. The interviewee used to live in Harlem. Dicusses UDC projects in the community and the lack of their equal employment opportunities for minorities. Based on the label this might be Marshal England.
At roughly the 7-minute mark a new recording begins with a man talking about master plans and people working on sites, and the specification addendum. Says that Black leadership pushed Rockefeller to put up the state office building here (in Harlem) without community input so there is now frustration that it could have been new housing. There is a referendum that might be happening because of this situation. This is likely Tim Cooney because Kent addresses him as Tim near the end.
