Official manuscript copy of the royal approval of the order merging the Universidad San Gregorio Magno with the Universidad de Santo Tomás de Aquino.
Official seal stamped on first page, dated 1792-1793. Dated and signed on page 5: "en Quito, en quinze dias del mes de julio de mil setecientos noventa y dos años, Joseph Enqrique." Final three pages are blank.

Historical note: Universidad Central del Ecuador
Founded by the Jesuits in 1620, the Real y Pontificia Universidad de San Gregorio Magno merged with the Dominican Universidad de Santo Tomás de Aquino following the 1767 expulsion of the Jesuits from Spanish America. In 1826 it became the Universidad Central del Ecuador.
