Scope and Contents
This collection consists of letters written by Frederick J. Mauriello to his parents and sisters during his basic training and service in World War II. Included with the letters are a map, drawings, newspaper clippings, photographs, and photographic negatives. Letters originating in the United States were sent from Massachusetts, Tennessee, Virginia, and North Carolina. Overseas letters are postmarked from France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany.
Also included is material for Christopher Mauriello's book, From Boston to Berlin (2001), which included a selection of his father's letters alongside photographs by Roland Regan, Sr.

Biographical note
Frederick Joseph Mauriello was born in Boston, Massachusetts on October 20, 1921, the son of Italian immigrants Eugene Mauriello and Angeline Gaggiona. Mauriello joined the United States Army in 1942 and was given specialized training in electrical engineering. He was then assigned to the 309th Field Artillery Battalion and sent to Europe in 1944, where he served as a radio operator. After World War II, Mauriello received his undergraduate degree from Boston College and his graduate degree from Northeastern University. He began a long career with IBM and relocated to upstate New York. He died in August, 2004.
