Scope and Contents

The Agnes C. Storer scrapbook consists of autographs, correspondence, photographs, business cards, newspaper clippings, and a drawing. The material relates to Jesuit priests or Jesuit institutions, primarily in the United States. Also includes two letters to her father Horatio Storer. Photographs include images of individual Jesuits, St. Francis Xavier College's Church, Georgetown College, and the Church of Immaculate Conception in South Boston. Many letters are fragements, with just the last few lines and signature, from Jesuits. Other complete letters are responses to Storer's interest in collecting the writings of Henry Shannelle, SJ; E.J. Devitt; and Francis J. Lamb, SJ.

Biographical note

Agnes Storer was born in 1874 to Horatio Robinson Storer (1830-1922) and Caroline Augusta Gilmore. Her father was a pioneer surgeon, civic leader, and convert to Catholicism who corresponded with various Jesuits in the United States. Agnes Storer devoted her life to philanthropy and died in Newport, Rhode Island in 1943.

Abstract

A scrapbook assembled by New England philanthropist Agnes C. Storer, containing cards, correspondence, a drawing, photographs, and newspaper clippings, most concerning Jesuit priests and institutions. Much of the correspondence has been clipped and just the autograph retained.
