Biographical Note

Thomas F. Ryan, Jr. grew up in Brighton and West Roxbury, Massachusetts. He attended and graduated from the Boston Latin School. Ryan earned a BS in Marketing from Boston College (1963), where he was active in a number of several clubs and served as treasurer of his senior class.

Immediately following college, Ryan joined IBM as a sales representative (1963-1966). Next, he served as vice president for business development at the Boston Stock Exchange (1966-1968). Ryan spent much of his career at the Kidder, Peabody Group Inc. (1968-1995), starting as an equity sales trader and departing as chairman. In 1995, Ryan became president and chief operating officer of the American Stock Exchange, a role he held until 1999. In 2003, Ryan became a director at global life sciences company Repligen Corp.

Continually active with his alma mater, Ryan was appointed to the Boston College Board of Trustees in 1995. He was also involved in the Boston College Wall Street Council, Real Estate and Finance Council, and Ever to Excel Compaign Executive Committee.
