Scope and Contents
Consists of annotated typescripts, drafts, notes and notebooks, publishing materials, and screenplays by author Mike Lupica, as well as three scrapbooks of his newspaper articles published between 1971 and 1980. Written works referenced in the collection include: Dead Air (1986), Extra Credits (1988), Red Zone (2003), Too Far (2004), Travel Team (2004), Heat (2006), Million-Dollar Throw (2009), The Batboy (2010), and The Underdogs (2011). Papers also include notes and a first draft of a pilot screenplay for Lupica's unreleased HBO series "Possum Dunes."

Biographical note: Mike Lupica
Michael "Mike" Lupica was born on May 11, 1952, in Oneida, New York. In 1964, he moved with his family to Nashua, New Hampshire, and graduated from Bishop Guertin High School in 1970. From 1970-1974, Lupica attended Boston College, where he wrote for The Heights and freelanced for various publications, including The Boston Globe. He began his newspaper career covering the New York Knicks for the New York Post and became the youngest columnist at a New York paper with the New York Daily News in 1977.
In the 1980s, Lupica began writing the column "Shooting From the Lip" in the Sunday News and, in 1987, he launched "The Sporting Life" in Esquire magazine. He co-wrote autobiographies with Reggie Jackson and Bill Parcells, collaborated with author and screenwriter William Goldman on Wait Till Next Year (1988), and wrote nonfiction works including Mad as Hell: How Sports Got Away from the Fans and How We Get It Back (1996), and Summer of '98 (1999). In addition, he has written several novels, including Dead Air (1986), which was nominated for the Edgar Allan Poe Award for Best First Mystery, and best sellers Bump and Run (2000) and Wild Pitch (2002). Lupica has also published several young adult novels, including Travel Team (2004), Heat (2005), and Summer Ball (2007).
Over the years he has been a regular on CBS Morning News, Good Morning America, and The MacNeil-Lehrer Newshour. On the radio, Lupica has made frequent appearances on Imus in the Morning. Since 2010, he has been a TV anchor for ESPN's The Sports Reporters and also hosted his own program, The Mike Lupica Show, on ESPN2 in 2013. He has received numerous honors, including the 2003 Jim Murray Award from the National Football Foundation.
