Administrative papers of the theology department at Boston College collected by associate professor and faculty committee member, Thomas E. Wangler. The materials include departmental correspondence and memos, meeting agendas and minutes, mission statement and goals revisions, planning materials for events such as colloquiums, dinners, and weekend symposiums, and personal notes taken by Wangler.

Biographical note: Thomas E. Wangler

Thomas E. Wangler was born on October 3, 1938, in Boston, Massachusetts. Wangler graduated from LeMoyne College in 1960 and was inducted into the LeMoyne College Athletics Hall of Fame in 1990 for his cross-country running achievements. In 1968, he received his PhD in religious history from Marquette University. He married Gail M. (Reid) Wangler, and together they had daughter, Julie Anne Belou, and son, John William Wangler.

Wangler was an associate professor of theology at Boston College for forty-four years as a specialist in the history of religion in America and American Catholicism. He was director of the theology department's graduate studies program and served as associate dean for students in the College of Arts and Sciences from 1972-1974. His article "The Birth of Americanism" received an award from the College Theology Society in 1973. Wangler also contributed the chapter "American Catholics and the Spanish-American War" to the volume Catholics in America: 1776–1976 (1976).

During his career at Boston College, Wangler served on the Faculty Due Process Committee, Faculty Hearing Committee, Faculty Review Panel, Faculty Compensation Committee, Faculty Grievance Committee, and Arts and Sciences Educational Policy Committee. In addition, he directed the school's Scholar of the College Program and served on the planning committee for the University's 125th anniversary celebration in 1988. Wangler retired from Boston College in 2011. He died on April 24, 2024 in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts.
