The first file, from 1971-1973, was originally in a box with earlier correspondence from L'Heureux's Jesuit years and has some overlap. It continues to document earlier friendships, responses to his laicization, and praise for his memoir Picnic in Babylon. It also documents his publication of his first novel and his brief time editing The Boston Review of the Arts.

L'Heureux alternately called these files "General" or "Personal" correspondence over the years, but the contents are consistent regardless of title. They largely contain letters exchanged with other writers. These files do include some of the correspondents who have individual files above; L'Heureux appears to have been inconsistent over time in keeping up with the individual filing of correspondents who were especially important to him.
