Scope and Contents

Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin interviewing festival musicians Johnny McGreevy, Andy McGann, and Johnny Cronin, with a musical interlude by Dale Russ. They interviews include both conversation and performance. They were recorded in the Irish Room of the John J. Burns Library the day after the festival.

Johnny McGreevy interview

Ó Súilleabháin and McGreevy discuss McGreevy's upbringing in Chicago; Captain Francis O'Neill; dance bands; Eleanor Kane and Jimmy Neary; and learning to play. McGreevy then plays three jigs, including "Bride's Favorite" and two untitled jigs. McGreevy then talks about Joe and Seamus Cooley; visiting Ireland for the first time in 1959; and traditional music in Chicago.

Dale Russ interlude

Two reels followed by two hornpipes: "Love at the Endings", "Reel of Rio", "The Stack of Wheat", and "Bantry Bay Hornpipe".

Andy McGann interview

McGann discusses his family background; Michael Coleman; reading and learning music; more about Coleman's death and influence; and the fiddle festival. The interview concludes with McGann playing "St. Anne's Reel".

Johnny Cronin interview

Cronin discusses his background; Sliabh Luachra teachers and musicians including Tom Billy and Padraig O'Keeffe; the Sliabh Luachra style; coming to the United States; and performers Jimmy Neary and Eleanor Kane. Cronin plays "The Morning Star" to conclude his interview.
