General context
In early 1993, Doyle spent two weeks documenting conditions following the April 1992 ceasefire in the Somali Civil War, and efforts by the NGO Concern Worldwide to support that country's rebuilding of its food chain, sanitation, and education systems. While in Somalia, Doyle also documented a visit by American President George H.W. Bush. In April of 1993 Doyle exhibited a selection of her photographs in Belfast as part of Concern Worldwide's fundraising efforts in Northern Ireland.
