Historical note: Massachusetts Association of Colleges of Nursing
The Massachusetts Association of Colleges of Nursing (MACN), originally called the Forum of Deans and Chairpersons of Baccalaureate Nursing Programs in Massachusetts, was founded in 1976 and consisted of the directors and deans of nursing educational programs across Massachusetts. Its mission was "to provide leadership and advocacy on matters pertaining to professional nursing education and practice in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts." Its activities included preparing reports and promotional materials about nursing education, reviewing activities of the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing, and advocating for legislation and policy change at the state level regarding nursing and nursing education. The members of the founding committee were Linda Amos, Dean, Boston University School of Nursing; Mary Dineen, Dean, Boston College School of Nursing; Lillian Goodman, Chairperson, Department of Nursing, Worcester State College; and Eleanor Voorhies, Chairperson, Department of Nursing, Fitchburg State College. The association grew to include twenty-eight member institutions by 2023.
